Conditions commonly referred for HBOT

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has established medical uses. Whether it is appropriate depends on the diagnosis, timing, prior treatment and individual medical factors.

Selected problem wounds

Including certain diabetic lower-extremity wounds when HBOT forms part of a comprehensive wound-care plan.

02

Radiation tissue injury

Selected delayed radiation injury involving soft tissue or bone after cancer treatment.

03

Refractory osteomyelitis

Adjunctive treatment for selected chronic bone infections that have not responded adequately to standard care.

04

Compromised grafts & flaps

HBOT may be considered when a graft or flap is threatened by inadequate oxygen delivery.

05

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss

Time-sensitive adjunctive treatment may be considered in selected patients after medical assessment.

06

Other recognized indications

HBOT also has established roles in several acute and uncommon conditions, generally managed with specialist or hospital involvement.

What HBOT does

Oxygen under increased pressure.

During HBOT, a patient breathes oxygen in a pressurized medical chamber. Treatment pressure, duration and number of sessions depend on the indication and treatment plan.
